Room installation
Zurich | 2014
Wenn Monster aus Träumen der Vernunft entstehen (When Monsters Emerge from Dreams of Reason) is a room installation consisting of a room partition in the form of a grid, a few people, and two round video projections that are located behind the room partition from the viewer’s perspective. One of them is projected large on the ceiling, the other somewhat hidden in the corner on a painted glass pane, so that it can be seen in the corridor outside the room. The two videos both show a snail crawling in a circle. The door into the room has a round window, like the format of the video. On a wall in the viewer’s part is a plastic bag hung on a nail containing electrical components, and other picked up objects. On the wall parallel to the grille is a power strip with emergency buttons. The one window, which is in the part of the video projection, is darkened with a roller shutter. All the walls show signs of use.
The content of the work refers to Goya’s etching entitled: “El sueño de la razón produce monstruos”.
